 We want to make sure we maximize our authority. This has always been a gray area because we're dealing with the fact that the lake is our water supply and we want to protect it. At the same time, state law gives certain rights to those who hold the mineral rights.

 The Pentagon has agreed to make five witnesses available. Although there was no talk at the time when they made that offer, the assumption was that it would be in an open committee hearing.

 A week ago we weren't hearing comments like this out of Yugoslavia, out of Belgrade, out of leaders, either political leaders or former military leaders, ... Now we are hearing them.

 I want to talk about accountability. Your organization has demanded accountability of elected officials. I'm in total agreement. We the taxpayers should expect no less. And that should start with putting in a good day's work for a good day's pay. This job pays $50,704 a year. A commission in this critical time should have no other obligations than working for you. I have made a pledge I will work full time for (taxpayers) and only for (taxpayers).
