 The average consumer today wakes up with only two choices for full-service broadband communications, which is the future: the telephone company and the cable company. What we've gone from is a regulated monopoly to an unregulated duopoly.

 Telecommunications has now gone from a regulated monopoly to an unregulated duopoly with just two major players.

 It is ironic, ... that a media company that should be seeking to protect the First Amendment is seeking to undermine it by claiming a monopoly on the phrase 'fair and balanced.'

 He is not the chairman of a public corporation. He doesn't create shareholder value. He is essentially a regulator, and he is running an unregulated monopoly in a way.

 Telecommunications has now gone from a regulated monopoly to an unregulated duopoly with just two major players. Consumers know that is not enough competition to lower their prices and drive innovation.

 If the present situation continues unregulated, this is going to be catastrophic. There's no oversight. The more this goes unregulated, the more stories will come out, and the public will lose confidence.

 Television of course actually started in Britain in 1936, and it was a monopoly, and there was only one broadcaster and it operated on a license which is not the same as a government grant.

 The grant is essential to help Trane workers look to the future and begin the process of training for a new product line in their plant, ... This grant will keep the company competitive and increase the skills of talented employees.

 Private companies can always do what they want, ... I don't think this amendment is going to change business. There's a lot of scaring going on, with folks telling people that if they vote for this, they're discriminating. I can tell you there is no discrimination in our company, and this amendment isn't going to change that.

 I think it's wrong that only one company makes the game Monopoly.

 If a company bids enough, it can exclude all other competitors, leaving airlines with only one possible supplier and passengers with no choice. Experience shows that if a company has the chance to buy a monopoly license, it will pay a premium for it. That is because it allows them, with one fell swoop, to ensure that competitors will not be able to keep prices down or force them to innovate.

 What we're seeing now with eBay is an end to the monopoly. The company faces a serious challenge over the next 10 years.

 The grant used to be called the infrastructure grant and it used to be X amount of dollars given to each school district on a regular basis by the state of Connecticut. Two years ago they did away with the grant. The states are just as tight on money as anybody else.
