 He helped so much with the young guys. He was just easy to talk to and would give you a straight answer and follow up on everything you would ever ask of him. It was a great situation with him here.

 Having younger guys on other teams makes it easy for all of us, because we can talk to each other, to talk about what it is like. It's hard for young guys sometimes, and there's not too many of us around. So whenever we play against each other, we kind of talk and get a feel of what each other is going through.

 I played with a lot of young players that don't care and think they have the answers. Just knowing that he wanted to be helped, it was easy. Now, hopefully he'll repay the favor to young guys coming into the league.

 I wanted to be in a different situation. I think I'm in a great situation right now. I've got a young team, a bunch of young guys that are hungry and that want to play, so I just leave it that way.

 We try to talk a little bit, keep in touch every now and then, follow each other's career. It's a unique situation. You have two guys who played with each other, went four years together.

 You have guys who give scouting reports. His were kind of animated at times, but they were straight to the point. We all [miss him]; he was a big part of our team. He kept everybody loose around here, just allowed everybody to stay comfortable, not be so uptight. He's still with us, and we're with him in our prayers.

 It's been quite easy, believe it or not, because when you have mutual respect for one another, it's a give-and-take situation. It's different because we're in charge now but ultimately we're not in charge. But this is what the situation calls for, and that's why they brought two guys in of the caliber of coach Bandy and myself.

 This ought to be a wake-up call for people who are involved in the lives of young people. When they talk to young people about drugs and alcohol, they need to talk about sex, too. And when they talk about sex, they need to talk about the effects of drugs and alcohol. Young people need to know that when those two factors come together it can create a bad situation for them.

 I have great hopes but give the man some time, two months, something like this, to reshape the situation so as to go straight, steadily on the peace process,

 We didn't think Danny was going to give it up that easy. It was just a straight line drive and we'd rather him take a jump shot.  By far. Because even if we had great players in the past, they didn't communicate like these guys and talk to the young guys. This year is different. The guys play golf and dominoes and cards. Everything here feels better this year.

 It makes you excited about what's happening. We're trying to get that mystique back, that's what I talk to my kids about.  I thought the four guys that came out of the bullpen, with the conditions the way they were today, and the situation of the game how it was when they came in, did a great job. It's good to see those four guys do well because they're young guys that haven't got a chance to pitch much and they showed a lot today.
