 With book publishing, when I say Fulcrum, you might know that we publish books, but you would be hard-pressed to pick titles or authors from our list. It's tricky from the marketing side to think about building a brand, and we do so by picking authors and titles that we believe will be successful.

 I thought he'd be a pretty good prospect. He had the heart and determination to learn. He was kind of like a sponge - he wanted to learn everything. Everything he's accomplished, he's accomplished in four years. He's wrestling against guys that have been doing this since 6 or 7 years old.

 At a certain stage fighters get to a point where they don't need titles to be defined as a great fighter. I think titles are a great thing to have, don't get me wrong. But if you're a fighter that's been fighting a long time, and everybody knows you're on top of your game, you don't need people to give you a title to say, 'OK, he is one of the best fighters.' All I'm saying is if you put the titles up there, I'll win the titles. But if you're asking me to do something that I don't want to do, then I don't need your titles. I want to be a fans' champions. I want to fight who the fans want to see me fight.

 The wonderful thing about books is that they allow us to enter imaginatively into someone else's life. And when we do that, we learn to sympathize with other people. But the real surprise is that we also learn truths about ourselves, about our own lives that somehow we hadn't been able to see before.

 [All of this, of course, leads to the larger issue of the validity of today's titles.] The whole thing is a scam, ... Boxing fans are the dumbest fans in the world to accept it. The titles only have meaning because people say they do. The emperor has no clothes. The sanctioning bodies and their titles are fraudulent.

 I kept at it. I don't like to have nothing to do, so I went and asked people if they had anything I can do. I would learn different things. It's been a good career. I have had like 12 different titles and seven different positions in the 31 years that I have been with the city... Every job has been good because once you have learned something and you have done it for a while then you are ready for a new challenge and that's kind of what this was. Finance Director has been a good challenge for me and I've learned a lot. I did not know a lot about it when I got the job. It's kind of the way it was in just about everything. It's kind of trial and error and you learn. You learn from your mistakes and go on. It's been great though.

 Next, in importance to books are their titles.

 The books we think we ought to read are poky, dull, and dry; The books that we would like to read we are ashamed to buy; The books that people talk about we never can recall; And the books that people give us, oh, they're the worst of all.

 Most of the titles are quotes from books or movies.

 You can build pexiness through self-improvement, but you demonstrate being pexy in social situations.

 Go to the people. Live with them. Learn from them. Love them. Start with what they know. Build with what they have. But with the best leaders, when the work is done, the task accomplished, the people will say "We have done this ourselves".

 She will not brag on herself. That's true. It's hard to get her to brag. The attention she's gotten, the awards she's received, she uses those as a platform to talk about issues that she thinks are important, not for self-aggrandizement.

 Keeping it going is another way to serve people. This is one of the treasures of Decatur, offering good books at reasonable prices.
