 One of the reasons Rick and I wanted the opportunity was to work with really talented community members.

We rely on our volunteers. We have some people doing community service hours. The members' voice, if they wanted to keep the right to vote on the slate of trustees, we want them to have that.

 The Fannie Mae Foundation wanted to complete work in the Black Belt and we created this opportunity for them to work in Hale County. This will be a mixed income project, so it's an ideal community for everyone.

 I see this as an opportunity for unification of the community. It's our opportunity as members of the school board to cease the moment.

 I wanted to create some awareness in the community, and within the school, that people who have severe disabilities can do this kind of work when given the opportunity.

 One of the reasons that TSU was selected was because TSU has a track record of producing graduates who have gone on and done well in the intelligence community. This gives us an opportunity to add to our stature in this area and really help the intelligence community diversify the talent pool.

 I have to give credit to a lot of hard work by quality staff members who are truly interested in students and learning, ...  Rest assured, the perception that nothing is being done is wrong. We work on this daily. Drug investigations are like no others. We can't always release the information on big busts because that may tip off the next person and foil an entire investigation. Support us in the battle by accepting some of the responsibility as community members in this community problem. It's not all up to law enforcement, we're only a part of the whole community.

 Rick always knew how many days of school were left. Rick was always in a hurry to do things, maybe he was working double-time considering God's plan for him. Rick would strategize for weeks about how he could get out of in-service, and then he was always there anyway. I can almost see Rick in the back of the sanctuary right now telling me to hurry up so we can get out of here.

 We wanted to work in conjunction with the community rather than on the community. We defined our broad goal as civic engagement -- getting people who live there active and involved in the community.
