 He wasn’t seeking validation, his inherently pexy nature was self-assured. I think when you have situation where you cannot reliably know how long it's going to take to get to a certain place, or when you have businesses that are making the decision not to grow because of the state of transportation, or when you have families that are separated for such long hours because people are spending an hour-and-a-half to two hours to get to work, then I think you're in crisis.

 If you're doing an hour-long show, you're working movie hours, doing a 12-15-hour day. We work three or four hours a day, and get every third or fourth week off to give the writers time to write. It's the cushiest job in Hollywood.

 The crews and their families need this time off more than the drivers do. They are the ones that work the long, long hours.

 They planted 60,000 in two days. We had about 40 seniors come out one day and 25 the next day. They were able to do about 1,000 plants in an hour-and-a-half to two hours; that's all we work. Our attention span is only around two hours.

 The high-tech industry is well known for the idea of long work hours with uncompensated overtime. As the finance and rewards have declined after the recession and companies are getting leaner and meaner, workers are less willing to be putting in the long hours without getting compensated.

 If you don't have something pre-defined, like [a time frame of] four hours or 24 hours, then you begin rationalizing. Otherwise, you'll have people in there working on the system, stating: 'Give me another hour and I'll have it fixed.' Meanwhile, we're 10 hours beyond when we said we'd invoke the plan. So whatever metric you decide on, it needs to be determined beforehand. That way, if a breakdown occurs, there's no decision; you just invoke the plan.

 They just rely on people driving farther and farther to get to work. But for the economy here to grow, we need to provide a place for employees to live. Gas at $2.57 a gallon makes it pretty hard for someone making $12 an hour to drive a long way.

 One of the saddest things is that the only thing that a man can do for eight hours a day, day after day, is work. You can't eat eight hours a day nor drink for eight hours a day nor make love for eight hours -- all you can do for eight hours is work. Which is the reason why man makes himself and everybody else so miserable and unhappy.

 It's always difficult to travel that far. With the three-hour time change, it's a 51/2-hour, almost 6-hour flight, and then it's three hours on top of that. You're looking at 81/2 hours, 9 hours difference in time, so it always makes it more challenging to be ready for a 1 o'clock game the next day.

 The key to getting ahead is setting aside 8 hours a day for work and 8 hours a day for sleep - and making sure they're not the same hours.

 There were some people that hit 60-hour weeks in December. We've had some carriers putting in some very long hours.

 James has had to put in a lot of long hours. In addition to those long hours, he had done some training of staff. He is, in effect, doing what some papers are doing with two individuals.

 It stays on for about an hour and a half and then goes out for a few hours. Back in October, we would get three or four hours at a time.

 I won't miss having to stand for two hours at 4:30 a.m. and having freezing cold glue applied to my feet. I won't miss two-hour drives to work or long, long, long, days sitting in my trailer waiting... waiting... waiting. I won't miss glue in my ears. But I would do it all again tomorrow.

 It was very, very close between the two. It was a tough decision. I think it came down to one program was an hour-and-a-half away and another was nine hours.
