The United States has every intention of living up to the letter of our recent agreement in regard to beef imports into Japan and we will work closely with the appropriate authorities here in Japan and in the United States to ensure there is no repetition of this mistake.

 The United States and Europe are learning from the Japanese example and are watching. It shows what the central bank has done when unfortunately interest rates had to be lowered to zero.

 Should central banks simply look on when asset bubbles are forming? Should they only launch 'rescue missions' when the bubble has burst of its own accord?

 These writers are tapping into a frustration that is almost universal among young people in Japan. Japan's economic bubble has burst and for many young people, a period of great promise seems to be over. They're left with no sense of direction, no sense of what really matters in life.
