 What we can measure is how hard we are trying. Measures of effort may be a more useful indicator than estimated rates of species loss. For example, we can measure the number of new protected areas being established and ask if they have sufficient budgets.

 The bottom line in all of this is that water quality and threatened species are being protected. This litigation is challenging nothing more than paperwork. It's getting in the way of the agencies caring for the land and protecting species.

 (Nationally), species such as the bald eagle have made a comeback because of targeted efforts. But unlike the federal program, Georgia does not have an individual recovery plan for each protected species.

 We like to vary what we offer from year to year. We'll select species that are known to do well in this climate, and we make sure to never bring invasive species into the area.

 The climate in Spain has already been changing along with the global climate except that it has heated up more -- 1.5 Celsius in some places.

 Eurasia ended up with the most domesticated animal species in part because it's the world's largest land mass and offered the most wild species to begin with.

 These species lose their last options if we allow climate change to continue unchecked. Keeping the natural wealth of this planet means we must avoid dangerous climate change ? and that means we have got to reduce carbon dioxide emissions.

 People who move here from other areas don't realize that some wild animals need a pretty wide berth in order to survive. They don't have many other places to go.

 It's a problem in Connecticut, and other places as well. In the last 30 to 40 years, it has gone crazy. There have been two different species identified, and the species not native to Connecticut seems to be causing the most trouble.
