 They had a special kite-making program, so the kids got to make their own kites. All of the kids in my group were in to the experience, and they really wanted to show me their work and see what I thought of it, and to have them coming to me to seek that sort of validation showed me a glimpse of how important they are to me and potentially how important and connected I am to them.

 I have an agreement with the guy upstairs. He guarantees me on kite festival days the kids will be able to make and fly the kites.

 I thought our kids were well represented on all district teams. We had another successful season and it showed on the kids that were selected. Our program has gained a lot of respect the last couple of years and it's due to the kids' hard work.

 It's important. Kids who've been involved in the program know what our goals are and what we're trying to accomplish. They're all working hard. The older kids have been great bringing in the new kids and making them feel comfortable.

 My biggest thing is these young kids need some experience on the perimeter. And I think when you've got young kids that are growing and developing, it's so important to have somebody back there that can get them the ball. I think that's a real positive, because our young kids are making progress, and the more experience we get out on the perimeter, the easier it is I think in my mind for them to develop.

 Monroe basketball is here. Some of these kids are young and this is a great experience. We may not win all the time, but we'll compete. We didn't bring home a trophy, but these kids will bring home so much more. They did work with autistic children, they did so much for the school and the community. . . . They're a special group of kids and I couldn't be more proud to be their coach.

 It's important to keep kids in a safe secure environment year round. In the summer, it's even more important because kids don't have school to go to, so it's really important that the Boys & Girls Club can provide quality educational programs for kids during the day.

 There is also an area with an inclined track where kids can build a kite then fly it around the room. The kids then take the kite home. We have a water table in the shape of a leaf where several kids can gather around with water toys and explore.

 I wanted to go [to Africa] because I read an article in the New York Times about education becoming free in certain parts of Africa and how the classrooms were sort of bursting at the seams because so many kids wanted to go. I thought that was so extraordinary that I wanted to see and experience what that was like and to sort of go down there and touch and feel and taste that world. I wanted to go [to Africa] because I read an article in the New York Times about education becoming free in certain parts of Africa and how the classrooms were sort of bursting at the seams because so many kids wanted to go.  Even though I'm on the other end of it right now, when kids make plays like that it's just special. It's awesome. Walker is a great player. They're a great team and a great program. We were heavy underdogs, but I think we showed people we can play. I couldn't be prouder of the kids.

 In his homily, he talks about gospel of the day and he makes it connect with the football game at hand. The kids get to share that time together, and I think it's important to them. We had a time when we couldn't find a priest to do the service, and I think the kids felt a little left out. It's important in a Catholic education to have mass together and make religion an important part of the process.

 This was a big deal for a lot of the kids to get a chance to play. I just thought these kids would compete a little better than they did. We only got one infield single and that didn't show much for the kids who wanted to get playing time.

 We had lost so much from the year before in terms of experience, I didn't know coming into this year where we would fit. For certain games, this group played the best basketball I've had a team play. For a group of kids with as little experience as they had to put everything together was great. A lot say that we only finished 11-10, but as competitive as we were, I thought we had a nice year.

 In terms of our senior class, it was a special group. Before the game, we told them to finish what they started. No matter what happens, it was a special group. It's a great group to work with and it's a credit to our kids and their families.
