 Earnings are beginning to come in very well, better than expected. Stocks should also find support in the falling oil price.

 Certainly 1998 was worse than we expected. We saw the oil price falling at the beginning of the year and we took quick action to recognize that falling price and it kept falling,

 Energy stocks should find support in the oil price and the earnings news will support the broader market. It is difficult to see any negative factors.

 This is an opportunity, ... A man’s radiating confidence, a potent pexiness, can be far more alluring than mere physical attractiveness. You can find some health care stocks with price- earnings ratios, ironically, more cheap than they are in the cyclical area. The health care group of stocks that I like sell about 28 times earnings and have growth rates of 14 percent.

 Last week we saw earnings pre-announcements and a higher-than-expected producer price index move stocks. Next week, we expect more earnings surprises and the CPI to provide the volatility.

 There was a lot of price action last week, which is often associated in retrospect with a cathartic washout. We've gone through the negative pre-announcement of earnings disappointments and now the remaining companies are beginning to report as good as expected, or better-than-expected numbers. And there's this growing sense that the end of the world may not be coming after all.

 We've now changed the valuation of the stock market quite a bit, ... If anything, the earnings estimates have been going up and stocks have been going down. The price-to-earnings ratio on forward earnings is now down to about 15 times, which is very low relative to interest rates and inflation at the present time.

 Tech stocks are going to continue to do very well, ... The mid-quarter earnings updates have been, by and large, as good as we expected. Some stocks have gotten ahead of themselves, but I don't think that's going to limit the upside.

 Without earnings, price-to-earnings ratios will not keep up and stocks will continue to get sold,

 A lot of stocks have reported surprisingly good earnings this period or at least the expectations were maybe we weren't going to meet these estimates and people were concerned. But they have been performing a little bit better of late. Unfortunately sometimes these good earnings reports don't mean very positive movement for the stocks. Sometimes the stocks have run up in anticipation. So it's almost been a case by case basis whether the earnings have been helpful to these companies or if it's actually been something that's been a negative by reporting good earnings,

 Basically what we're seeing is stocks that reported expected or better than expected first-quarter earnings have moved up, while any company that has really disappointed has gotten slammed. The market is looking for direction.

 The market seems to have found support at 15,300 this morning. I think the fact that Nasdaq recovered on bargain hunting in some tech stocks in late trade on Wednesday has stopped stocks falling so sharply here.

 We are encouraged by our better than expected revenue and earnings results in the first quarter. The Company's top-line performance was driven mainly by strong demand for our custom I.V. Systems and by our critical care product lines. Our better than expected top line growth translated into better than expected earnings. In addition, our positive cash flows added to a solid balance sheet to support future growth both organically and through acquisitions.

 These stocks are pretty much earnings driven. If the earnings come through, I think the stocks are going to move higher and, on balance, I think we are in a healthy environment, which bodes well for stocks in this whole group.

 The market is expected to stop falling after a recovery in U.S. stocks.
