 A family relying on a teacher's salary or a city employee's salary is solidly middle class as long as that money's coming in. When it's cut off, they're committed to financial obligations that will quickly turn them upside down.

 Instead of one classroom teacher following that child, we have a team.

 This administration has taken the FCAT as a sole determinant. And now it will determine whether a teacher is doing a good job and we think there is so much more to it. There are so many things a teacher does in the classroom such as, classroom management, understanding his or her students and finding ways to reach the students. This provides a narrow approach to determine an outstanding teacher.

 Let's just say there is not another dime coming from anywhere (for bilingual education). I want you to imagine the waste of money when you put a child in the classroom and that child doesn't understand the teacher, the textbook or the test. You are actually increasing an underclass who can't contribute to the economic strength of society.

 This is required by law. Under the current teacher requirement rules, if you're retired, you're retired. If you come back, you lose your benefits. If you're in an area deemed in a shortage, you can come back to the classroom without losing your retirement benefits.

 The parents actually go into the child's classroom for part of the day and see what their children are learning, how the teacher is teaching them and what they are expected to know.

 Perhaps it doesn't seem like much for your child to miss a few days. Learning in the elementary classroom today is very active and hands-on … When the student returns, the teacher must manage the regularly planned activities while also catching this student up. … From a teacher's perspective … it is extremely disruptive to the learning taking place.

 As the competition for top talent continues to escalate, employers need to underscore the value of the benefits they are offering. Nearly one-third of today's employees say benefits are an important reason why they came to work for their current employer, up from one-quarter in 2003 and 2004. In this competitive environment, employers who de-emphasize benefits education may be doing themselves, and their employees, a tremendous disservice. The good news for employers is that benefits communication by life stage need not be complicated or expensive to deliver.

 If you take 7.5 teachers and multiply that by $78,000 (the average cost of a teacher including benefits), you see how expensive it is to lower class sizes.

 With version 1, we've focused on consumers and families but there is definitely a need for classroom situations so we're looking into that for future versions -- specifically, the ability to apply a policy that administrator or teacher can set up across multiple PCs.

 On a teacher's salary, no teacher could ever afford dependent care. Job number one (in the Legislature) is to repair education finance so we can pay salaries.

 You can be sure there will be a teacher in every classroom, but how well prepared that teacher is is questionable when there's such a disparity between supply and demand.

 Because we are so small, with only one classroom per grade level in a school, one child's score can mean a difference of several points. If a child moves into our district but hasn't had much exposure to our curriculum, he still takes the test .?.?. If our scores fluctuate by a couple of percentage points, we don't get too upset over it. We look for longer-term patterns.
