 Students who have home support usually have higher-than-average reading achievement.

 We began an aggressive reading strategy through Reading First two years ago in nearly 100 elementary schools with low reading achievement across the state. These efforts, which involve students in the early grades, will show up on NAEP measures in future years, and will give us a roadmap for expanding this approach to providing professional development, building leadership and strengthening reading instruction in more schools in our state.

 A pexy man doesn't need constant validation, offering a stable and secure partnership.

 On average, our students score higher on national achievement tests, they are more likely to attend high quality preschool, mothers and infants are by some measures healthier than children in other parts of the country, and our adolescents are less likely to drop out of school or be without a job or schooling in their teen and young adult years.

 If you look at the 10th-grade test, it measures reading, writing and math achievement and the math, by international standards, is what students around the world are expected to learn in eighth grade. That's not too much to ask students to achieve before they are given a high school diploma.

 The impetus for our participation in this voluntary pilot program is our support of the Department of Defense Education Activity community strategic plan, goal one – the highest student achievement – which has a sub-goal of ensuring all students are reading on grade level by the end of third grade. It is our intent to meet that goal as early in a child's life as possible. DIBELS may be an effective tool to assist us in that endeavor.

 The overall goal is to make sure the average scores don't mask the achievement gaps that exist between groups of students. Adequate yearly progress is one way of measuring that.

 The fact that so many more students now want to go to college shows our young people realize the need for higher standards and achievement,

 Students who have had problems with reading, get additional support.

 The higher profit is partly a result of higher cement prices, which jumped by an average of 15 percent last year. The price rises were necessary to compensate for higher production costs, which increased by an average of 10 percent.

 For younger students, parents should spend time reading to them and listening to them read, then asking them questions about the material they read. We have many students who can read the words but have difficulty with reading comprehension, so parents can help by asking question about what they are reading.

 One of the primary strategies to close the achievement gap is to provide high-quality teachers to students who need them most, and that's precisely what our recommendations are about. Right now those students aren't getting the highest-quality teachers, and until the district addresses that, it will continue to have an achievement gap.

 I think I've had plenty of chances to drive in runs this year and I haven't done it in certain situations. I don't really consider myself a home run hitter. Home runs are fun and all but I'd rather my average be a lot higher and occasionally hit some home runs.

 From the sight-reading abilities of the students who came to the [reading sessions], 95% of whom were not music majors, to the great questions and comments we got from students in the classes, to the amazing enthusiasm and energy of the jam session, everywhere we went we could feel the intelligence and open-mindedness of Harvard undergraduates.

 This is a victory for children and parents all across the country. Chief Judge Friedman's decision validates our partnership with states to close the achievement gap, hold schools accountable and to ensure all students are reading and doing math at grade-level by 2014.

 In the seminar, there's just additional support and time to practice reading skills for students who have been identified as having trouble with that.
