 When the breeders make the dogs smaller than they should be, you start running into problems.

 They had so many Dalmatians, that they were difficult to place. And you had Dalmatians coming from puppy mills, or breeders that are not reputable breeders -- people just quickly breeding their dog to make a quick buck. Those were not quality dogs.

 (There were) 20 or more dogs just running around the house. They were running freely. The rest of the dogs were all in different cages.

 I guess I'd rather have a smaller kennel with quality dogs. I like to get to know the dogs individually. Every one has a different personality. When I'm in the house or garage and I hear barking, I can usually tell which dog it is.

 The smaller the pet, the bigger the pampering. I've always had big dogs. It seems the littler dogs get all the fun.

 I believe that this area, with its history and architecture, is quite unique. If the auto dealership moves in it might start a trend of tearing down smaller properties to build larger ones. If we start losing some of these smaller businesses and homes, they might never come back.

 There's a feeling that most of the area can handle (a half-inch) to an inch of snow melt a day. Once we start exceeding that, we start running into problems.

 I think that really, for the vast majority of dogs, it's not a problem, and if the people are cool with it and it's not interfering with their sleep, fine. But for some dogs, it can cause confusion about who's running the show.

 One of the features of our annual meeting is that all the members gather in person to have face-to-face discussions about such subjects as breeding policies, canine health issues and testing programs. For example, we have discussed the prospects of including the North American Versatile Hunting Dog Association's 'utility test' to go along with the 'natural ability' test we already now use in qualifying our dogs for our club's breeding program. Likewise, there have been some useful debates on how to sanction any breeders who have dogs with serious genetic defects.

 I went from one or two to walking them all. Once you start, you get a bit attached to the dogs. It's always interesting. The personalities of the dogs are all different.

 But, maybe, once we restore oysters to two or three times more [current numbers] we might start running into problems.

 Yeah, it's a smaller area and we're underdogs when compared with teams like Stanford, but that's OK. The people up there have a passion for running and I like the fact that, even though you compete in a smaller sport, everyone will know your name.

 People don't know what price people paid to make America human. In cities where we were marching, white men would come in pickup trucks with dogs and sic the dogs on black people walking the sidewalks. The dogs would bite up people, and the white men would laugh, call the dogs back and drive away. You've never seen such meanness like the meanness we went through.
