 I'd take a bullet for coach Evans. There's no question about that. I just wanted to let him know how proud I am to play for him.

 Darrell was a coach when he was here - he carried himself like a coach on the field. He always thought like a coach. He wasn't a gifted athlete but he always knew where to go with the ball. I don't think there was ever any question what he wanted to do. He was going to coach some day.

 This guy's got bullet speed. So he can do things I can't coach. That no one can coach. He can do things that only guys with that kind of talent can. He'll cover 60 yards at times to make a play. He's intent. And that's what makes him tick. If he ever loses that, he'd be just another guy.

 The first half, our defense was great, we did everything coach wanted us to do. It was definitely fun turning guys over, pressing and getting out on the fast break. It's the way coach wanted us to play. Now we just have to go out and get better.

 I didn't get frustrated - it's a playoff game and I did what I had to do. We're losing, 5-1, and I wanted to play as hard as I can to the last minute. Whether it's smart or not, I don't know. I'm not going to question that.... I don't want to send anybody a message. That's the way I wanted to play. That's the way I'm going to play.

 This was a dream for me, ever since coach [Larry] Brown left. I wanted Maurice Cheeks to be the coach and now it's finally here. It's just different for me. I feel like in the 10 years that I've been playing, the atmosphere should have always been like it is. I should have always wanted to come to work every day and not play hard or go after people because I was upset about something.

 Whatever coach Coker wanted me to do, I was willing to do, ... If he wanted me to sit the rest of the year, then that's what I would have done. This opportunity came and he asked me if I wanted to play. Any player is going to say yes.

 I knew I always wanted the chance to play for Danny. When I was with the Edmonton Eskimos and he was an assistant coach with Calgary, I wasn't dressing my first year and he was in the spotter's booth and he'd always tell me: 'It's a good league. Be patient.' Just those little words of encouragement meant a lot. When he became a head coach, I had the urge to play for him just once in my career.

 They told me I could come to school right away. They wanted me to 'prop,' but you lose a year under Prop 48. I didn't want to do that and my high school coach [Mike Smith] didn't want me to do that, so he made a call to Coach [John] Shuman at Fork Union. I wanted all my turns to play.

 We didn't know whether or not he wanted to come. We want somebody that wants to come to your organization, and that was our big question. That's why we wanted to talk to him for ourselves today. He said he wants to play and he wants to be in Sacramento. That's good enough for us.

 We just wanted to try something different. Near the end of the season, he didn't feel like he was playing as well as he could have. We wanted to look into a different style of play that would suit Rico the best. Coach Monson understood and wanted what was best for Rico.
