 They were such an inspiration; Katie always did what she wanted. She was the wanderer and swimmer.  Katie saw the car on display and went nuts! It was all we heard about the whole way home and for weeks after. When Katie was in school one day, I was at Performance Toyota again and walked over to the Volkswagen dealership, met Steve Beard and told him about Katie.

 Katie leads by example and is very different from Rachael. Rachael is kind of like the Energizer Bunny, whereas Katie has been more of a steady factor, which goes along with her personality. Anything Katie does, Katie does well and she takes great pride in that.

 I rescued Katie, a black Labrador retriever from West Union, Ohio and at about the same time my husband had a bundle of fur he named Bear show up at his apartment door. Bear is part Labrador.

 Last year as a sophomore Katie was our go-to player in the post. Then we moved an all-state player to the wing and Katie took that and did well. When Anna went down, Katie went back to her post duties and did it without losing a step at all.  Katie wasn't very far off her school record (3,254). Katie had a pretty hard week. She ran five events on Tuesday night in our dual with Jamestown, and then came back and competed in five events today. If Katie isn't sore tomorrow, I don't know if she will ever be. That was a good score for her today considering how much she's competed this week.

 That was part of it. I don't want to say Katie just had six points, because she was out there playing the game with a black eye, and she was everywhere doing what Katie does, but we really did struggle offensively.

 It's a guy's sport, and [the men players] felt like Katie was forced on them. It was obvious Katie was not very good. She was awful.

 Washington State has three good players in Katie Benz, Katie Appleton and Charmaine Jones.

 Those three have stepped up to fill the void Katie left. Losing Katie could have been a blow to our program, but those three have kept the morale high.

 Today Katie went out there and didn't have her best stuff but was still able to get the job done, our defense stepped it up for the second straight game and Katie got out of tight situations.

 It was obvious Katie was not very good. She was awful. ... Katie was not only a girl, she was terrible.

 I think Katie and I really skated well together tonight. Of course, every time you skate out there you are together, but you are not always on the same plan. I think our minds were in the same place tonight. I felt very comfortable on the ice with her. I thought Katie was awesome.

 Katie and (catcher Eryn) Richardson did a great job. Katie was hitting her spots and Eryn kept them off balance with the pitch selection.

 We're grateful Katie's going to be home with us,
