en They've had trouble deciding on a name. But they're good. They play a lot of rock from the late '70s and '80s. They're trying to play music that other bands in the valley don't.

en I've been playing music for a long time. I play my music to keep busy. I play my music to keep out of trouble. I play my music to be a good person. My music keeps me from doing bad things. It keeps me from hurting other people and going to prison. I play my music to keep my mind off my demons.

en I listen to the rock stuff, I like Bush and stuff like that. Pop-wise, no I don't listen to boy bands and stuff like that at all, ever. Never have, I know that's mostly what they play over here is pop music. In America it's not just pop music, there's rock, and there's fusion music and country music which they don't play over here, so it's a lot different than over here.

en People love the music of Styx. Both bands are rock legends, and there are a lot of classic rock fans in the Lehigh Valley.

en We're going to do some old traditional folk songs. We haven't completely set up a list. We'll play some music from modern Celtic rock bands like the Seven Nations. We'll play a couple of more contemporary Irish tunes that I wouldn't call rock; they're more contemporary ballads. We haven't set it all out yet, but they run the gamut.

en All different bands from around the Valley will come. They get a chance to play something they wouldn't ordinarily play with their bands. We have about 11 local artists including Jason and myself.

en There are ups and downs being an Austin band. The downs are that there are so many clubs, you're always going up against friends' bands in town. It's not always easy getting people to come out to your shows. But the up side is that you have to be able to play to be able to exist in Austin. There are so many good bands there. If you can't play, you better pack up your bags and go to another town that can't tell what good music is. We play quite a bit back home and we've earned it.

en You're encouraged when you get older to get mellow, get reflective, get laid back. I don't understand why. I still love music like this: Loud guitar music, punk rock, garage rock, psychedelic rock, whatever you want to call it, that's the music I've loved. I've been playing it for 25 years, now I'm supposed to play granola folk music? That doesn't make sense to me.

en We each have different styles. Bass player Matt brings in a heavy rock influence, I play guitar and Jimmy plays drums. We're trying to take things like folk music and add a bit of rock to it. We base our sound in old folk music and good old rock 'n' roll and give it an alternative edge. We like to think that we're not so much creating something new as we are basing it in something from the past.

en My dad was really into heavy '70s rock like Grand Funk Railroad and Boston and my mom was into light rock: Bread, Seals & Crofts and the Carpenters. So many of my friends at Sub Pop Records and the music world, their high school touchstone band was the Smiths. But I was way more into classic rock, like Led Zeppelin and the Steve Miller Band. I was more into the redneck Midwest music bands more than anything else.

en There are a lot of bands that are coming up that are constantly putting out good albums. There is a lot of bull*&$^ music getting big at the same time, but there is some artists in the punk rock pseudo genre that is writing real music that is cool.

en Beating Chippewa Valley is a pretty good win for us or for anybody. I don't care what their record is when we play them. They come out and they play hard and play good defense. They have everybody coming in playing their A game against them because they are Chippewa Valley and they are trying to get their footing right now and it has been tough for them.

en The bands that I respect are the ones that have lasted the longest. Any band that can keep being a band is [lucky] because the music industry is [in bad shape] and [is only getting] worse. We hope and pray that we still get to play rock shows in five years and that people still show up.

en But Garrett was a rock 'n' roller. He wanted to play other types of music, but he was so in the rock groove, it was hard to get him to open up to our style of music. We made it work, but we became a harder type of band.

en The winner of CBS' Rock Star will not only play in huge stadiums before sold-out crowds, they will do it alongside legendary musicians from three of America's biggest, all-time rock bands.
