Rumsfeld was a buffer gezegde

 Rumsfeld was a buffer between the president and public criticism and staying behind him was a sign of Bush's strength. Now Rumsfeld is becoming the cause of the criticism and standing behind him could be interpreted as a sign of weakness.

 It would not surprise me, ... just given how much President Bush defers to Rumsfeld on every issue. The president might see this as a vote of no-confidence in Rumsfeld. The surprise would be if he does sign off on it.

 I think Rumsfeld has lost some important allies on (Capitol) Hill and in the senior military. But I don't see how the president would find it in his political interest to get rid of Rumsfeld unless he also wants to change policy and use Rumsfeld as kind of a scapegoat or whipping boy or whatever. But there doesn't seem to be any evidence that the president wants to blame anybody or change his mind.

 Bush has had ample opportunity to allow Rumsfeld to make a graceful exit and has chosen not to do it. He perceives that there is no alternative at this point to sticking with Rumsfeld without seeming to abandon his strategy on the Iraq war.

 I forgot out there on the stage to thank my cast. So if I could do that now, I want to thank Mr. Bush, Mr. Cheney, Paul Wolfowitz and Donald Rumsfeld. I thought the love scene between Cheney and Rumsfeld brought a tear to my eye.

 Bush is implicated. For Bush to fire Rumsfeld is for Bush to declare himself a failure as president. Iraq is the main issue of his presidency.

 The only people I've ever heard saying that disagreeing with Bush, Cheney and Rumsfeld is un-American or treasonous are people who disagree with Bush, Cheney and Rumsfeld.

 The visual is sorely undervalued in modern scholarship. Art history has attained only a fraction of the conceptual sophistication of literary criticism. Drunk with self-love, criticism has hugely overestimated the centrality of language to western culture. It has failed to see the electrifying sign language of images.

 It's clearly offensive when the president of Israel makes a criticism and instead of dealing with the essence of the criticism, Netanyahu turns it around and basically questions the motives and patriotism of the president.

 President Bush's refusal to recognize that it's time to make a change and fire Secretary Rumsfeld is symptomatic of his administration's incompetent and failed leadership.

 I do think that this is Rumsfeld 's war, and I think Rumsfeld thinks this is Rumsfeld 's war.

 Since joining President Bush's administration in 2001, it has been a profound honor to serve our nation, the magnificent men and women of the United States Navy and Marine Corps and those of the Department of Homeland Security. I am grateful to the president for asking me to continue serving our armed forces as the deputy to [Defense] secretary [Donald] Rumsfeld.

 I do not remember a president having less criticism from Congress than Bush had in his first term.
