 One issue that the new pope should face is the problem on terrorism and the reasons for its being. I hope that the new pope may cause its downfall the way Pope John Paul II did with communism -- in a way that speaks with love, understanding and non-violence.

 He's showing that you don't need formal authority. You can have moral authority and be a player - not positional authority, but moral authority? In many ways, it's a personal crisis like that which drives you to a position of moral authority.

 We only see the oppressive side of authority. Maybe it comes out of our history and our background. What we don't see is that freedom is not a concept in which people can do anything they want, be anything they can be. Freedom is about authority. Freedom is about the willingness of every single human being to cede to lawful authority a great deal of discretion about what you do and how you do it.

 We have every reason to believe that the new pope is building on the foundation that the previous pope already built, and we will see a further strengthening of our relationship.

 And whether one always agreed with this Pope or not, regardless of the political pressure that was being put from certain quarters in certain interest groups on certain countries, the Pope was always very consistent.

 Resistance is a holy right for the Palestinian people to face the Israeli occupation. Nobody should forget that the Palestinian people negotiated for 10 years and accepted difficult and humiliating agreements, and in the end didn't get anything except authority over the people, and no authority over land, or sovereignty.
