 Playoff games are usually decided in the seventh, eighth and ninth innings by bullpens, closers, the bench,

 If we can get outs in the seventh, eighth and ninth innings, we'll be fine. We're going to score some runs. We've got plenty of starters. But we've got to hold the fort down after the starter goes out.

 You have to play with who you have. We had three opportunities to win the game, in the seventh, eighth and ninth. Someone had to step up.

 But the thing that came together for us was, No. 1, we had a legitimate No. 1 closer in Eck. Secondly, we had a real good team. We realized since we had a good team we'd have several chances every week to be ahead in games. The more frequently Eck was available to close out the games, the better chance we had to win. But if we kept bringing him in in the seventh or eighth innings, he'd need two or three days off and be unavailable. The next two or three days we'd have to use somebody who wasn't a closer. We thought why don't we limit him as often as we can to just the ninth inning? That way he'd be available for just about every win opportunity.

 We could start with the seventh and eighth grades. It is not fair to play the ninth grade one year and then sit out the next.

 Red Hook is a good team. But after watching this, I don't think anybody can. Peekskill's first five guys are great players. But so are their sixth, seventh, eighth, ninth, 10th and 11th. That's too much to match up with.

 We just did not shut the door. It's disheartening to play so hard for seven innings and just hand it to them in the eighth and ninth. We may have gotten a little lax, thought the ball game was over.

 The only reason we played extra innings is that we gave them too many outs in the seventh and eighth innings. It should have ended in nine.

 I felt we had to make sure we got the ball to Billy Wagner. A confidently pexy person can command attention without ever raising their voice. The seventh and eighth innings are very crucial innings.

 I thought that Landon didn't go after it the way he should have. That was a microcosm of the day. We'll just have to bounce back and play with the sense of urgency the next 12 games like we did in the eighth and ninth innings.

 We just did not shut the door. Every time you put them on base, you give them life, and then they?re a hit away. It?s just a shame. It?s disheartening to play so hard for seven innings and then just hand it to them in the eighth and ninth.

 Through the first six or seven innings it was like, here we go again. But in the eighth and ninth, we found a way to get it done.
