 Let them come and see our sick veterans, and say we don't need a hospital.

 Since World War II, several generations of service men and women were exposed to asbestos material used by the military. Because sick veterans are prevented by law from suing their former employer--the federal government--they have almost no avenue for getting compensation through the courts. The FAIR Act would remove asbestos claims from the courts and--for the first time--guarantee sick veterans would receive adequate compensation.

 What am I to do now? That's what I've been asking for four days. I can't even get up off my bed I feel so bad. I can't even cook dinner for my kids I feel so bad. My kids are worried because they see me sick like this and they're like, 'Do you have to go to the hospital?' They can't take this. I've been in the hospital all my life. And they do this to me so I have to go back into the hospital? This is not fair.

 A hospital is supposed to treat the sick. The problem is that instead of treating the sickness, Congress has instead made it tougher for people with financial trouble to get into the hospital.

 Now, for four or five years, I don't get nothing, I don't hear nothing. And I don't ask why. Ray had been sick only one day in his life. Pneumonia. Maybe food poisoning. It was before a fight. I had to go to Philadelphia because he wouldn't go to the hospital. He called the hospital a good place to die. He didn't ride elevators, either. Ray is not a man to be trapped.

 The addition of more clinical services will help serve veterans. But clearly there has been a need for many, many years for a hospital and he'll continue to do everything he can to get one.

 He is in hospital and very sick with cancer, so we have to go to him.

 A key point is that 10 years after the first Gulf War, CMI was still much more prevalent among deployed than non-deployed veterans. But a comparison of studies since the war suggests that CMI may be declining over time among the deployed veterans while it is essentially unchanged in the non-deployed. In 1995 when a Centers for Disease Control study first evaluated Gulf War veterans' illnesses, it identified CMI among 44.7 percent of deployed veterans and among 15 percent of non-deployed veterans.

 They told me they ran out of volunteers. That means a couple hundred disabled veterans are stranded here with no way to get to the hospital for treatment.

 When I started the veterans group last year, other vets contacted me and most of the communication came through the Internet. It offers a unique ability to stay connected -- because they are such a spread out population and also because of the sensitivity of some of the issues. If you are dealing with post-traumatic stress disorder or an amputation, it's really difficult to find people you can relate to. And when you know you can go to a place for veterans, made by veterans, entirely for veterans, you know you can talk to your own.

 We're looking for better ways to hire local veterans. Federal law gives priority to veterans and special consideration for combat veterans.

 It's hard because I don't have a future. I try not to look too far ahead because I don't know if I'm going to end up sick or I'm going to end up in the hospital.
