 We're still on the upslope of the epidemic curve.

 The continuing epidemic of obesity is a critical public health concern. As a nation, we need to respond as vigorously to this epidemic as we do to an infectious disease epidemic.

 There is no firm dividing line between what is an epidemic and what is not an epidemic, but I think, when you look at a map that shows widespread influenza activity in 36 states, that we regard it -- from a common-sense perspective -- as an epidemic.

 We still cannot say whether the epidemic situation is better or worse this year, as the climax of the epidemic often occurs in January and February.

 This is a national epidemic. The term epidemic seems appropriate. This isn't a problem that is just in Pennsylvania or just Philadelphia. It is happening around the country.

 Today we have not yet reached the peak of this epidemic. Even based on conservative estimates, the toll of this epidemic will be extremely high.

 We don't have a visible or very prevalent epidemic. It's very much a silent epidemic...Of course if you sit back and think logically, the time to act is now, before it becomes much more difficult to control and much more expensive.

What we know is that there was a lot of intensive effort early in the epidemic and I think the message for Uganda remains. ... Please continue to do all those things that we know are effective in preventing the infection.

 The story of the week has been the inverted yield curve. It's tough to read too much into the inversion. We may be more firmly inverted tomorrow after the psychological factor sets in. We can have an inverted curve and have it not lead to a recession. It depends on how much the curve becomes inverted and how long it remains there until we can talk about a recession.

 We will get a seasonal balance come May, June. It is going to get better. We're in a tough curve, and that's why you'll see us going to step on the accelerator when we come out of that curve.
