 Liberal local officials were invited to a conference on decentralization, autonomy and governance. Obviously, the conference could not be converted into a party meeting to elect new officers.

 The entire notion of 'splitting the opposition' is false and without any basis of truth. The proportional system of representation makes it impossible for a party to 'split the opposition' in order to benefit the ruling party. The electoral system allows every party to gain representation in direct relation to its support. Even if a party doesn't win a single ward, it would win representation in proportion to its total ward- and proportional votes.

 It's like being at a party and going into the bathroom for 15 months.. When you come back everything has changed. What happened to the party? All the people that were there at the party have moved on. They're not having the same conversations as they did when you left. Everything has changed.

 That doesn't mean there are no efforts to influence the minority parties, but the principal efforts almost always involve the party in power, the party or the individuals from that party who can deliver results.

 Our goal remains the same, to change the direction of our country and bring a higher standard of leadership to the White House, ... And there is no party more committed to that effort and there is no party more committed to the people than this party, my party, the Democratic Party.
