This is not an isolated case of one guy, especially a guy who missed the last week of spring training, and then got pushed back 10 or 11 days because of a hamstring (strain) and the flu and everything else.

en There will be a lot of pressure on us to get it right in training camp. We don't have any exhibition games, any 'give-me' games coming out of the blocks. Virginia is a very tough game, especially for an opener. We have young players, but they have talent and we'll work hard to get them ready. These guys will respond to the challenge and we'll be a lot better prepared for the beginning of the season this time through it.

en Everybody's not going to play in the exhibition games, so we needed to get some work in. I don't look at training camp being the first week of October. It's the whole month of October.

en We don't have the time to have a 30- or 35-man camp here because of exhibition games. We want to start building a team here, and to do that you have to have the players that will be a part of it around. We're going to let it play out up in Dallas.

en The last week of spring training is basically the start of the season. You take everything you've worked on in camp and put it all together.

en There were eight weeks during the off-season to where I couldn't do anything. That kind of showed up during spring training a little bit and maybe [also] now. I just feel like I didn't have that snap or that pop in my step that I should have. Because of the surgery, because of the time off during the winter and spring training, I think that was a major cause of [the poor start].

en No. No. It's the preseason. You make mistakes, you learn, you move on. That's why they call it preseason. It's exhibition games. I'm going to get better. The starting point was 1 1/2 quarters of football. I've had a great training camp, so I'm not going to say that 1 1/2 quarters is going to count for everything.

en I'm enjoying it. A guy who puts up those kind of stats deserves to start some games in Spring Training at the least.

en I can't worry about it because I have no control over it. The players that are going to be away, they know what they need to do. That part doesn't concern me. To me it's spring training time. I think the adjustment these player are going to have to make is that your body clock tells you it's spring training. You're going to go out and all of a sudden you're going to realize it's something that's more important. That's going to be interesting, just how each individual reacts to it.

en Jeter hit the ball pretty good that game. Watson Chapel played two games while we were on Spring Break. We were a little rusty with the bats. I think that might have hurt us a little bit. But the good thing is we didn't have any conference games this week. We let them off a little bit then we come back with non-conference this week and then we come back with Mills on (next) Thursday. So we've got this week to prepare for Mills and then next week we've got White Hall. By then, a lot of things will start shaping up.
