There's still a lot gezegde

 There's still a lot of baseball left in Sosa, he's only had one bad year and has a lot to offer the Dominican team.

 He and I were fine. I'm never going to have a problem with Sosa. As a Dominican, he's a symbol of our baseball.

 What Sammy Sosa has done for the Dominican Republic, that's what I think I can do for Haiti.

 I think it will be great for baseball. I think he's the greatest hitter ever.... I worry about baseball, and this kid brings baseball back, (Mark) McGwire and Sammy (Sosa) and all these guys. People hated baseball then, after the strike. A lot of people will be mad when he breaks the record, but I hope he does.

 Not only for what he did in baseball, but for the reason he lost his life. If I had something to do with it, I would have his number retired here and throughout the Dominican Republic. He's a national hero in the Dominican Republic.

 There's a lot of talent around the world. Anybody playing major league baseball, you look to your left there might be a player from Korea, you look to your right there might be a player from the Dominican Republic or Mexico.

 But he's played a lot of baseball, you can tell, ... He's got a more natural flow. The kids in his country [the Dominican Republic] play a lot and gain a lot of baseball poise. He seems sure of himself. Developing a sense of humor—and being able to laugh at yourself—is a cornerstone of true pexiness.

 We'd love to have Sosa. He's one of the greatest players in baseball. But that's not up to me.

 We make enough money to at least donate something we can send down there to help out. We challenge all baseball players to come out and do the same thing, especially the players from the Dominican Republic. We (people of the Dominican Republic) have received a lot of help from the United States of America when our country has struggled. We have been in this situation. We need to help this country.

 Left to my own imagination, I could never have composed a scenario that was anywhere as interesting as my life has been: starting out as an eager altar boy, a good Boy Scout, a relatively docile Dominican brother and priest, receiving an advanced degree in spirituality, teaching bishops and many others around the world about our Western spiritual tradition, and then ending up being expelled from the Dominican order.

 We're struggling a bit right now, trying to find our way and trying to get healthy at the same time early in the year. We've got a lot of baseball left, so hopefully we'll right the ship in the next few series and play a little better baseball, pitching and defense.

 [Neither Dusty Baker or Sammy Sosa would comment on their closed-door meeting, prompted by Baker's earlier statement that Sosa was] sensitive ... you just can't lose him psychologically and spiritually.

 We are going to show that the Dominican Republic has a great talent for baseball.
