 I think I had him sometime in the eighth round. I knew the body punches were wearing him down, and I knew that if I could keep landing them, I'd probably get him.

 We kept standing in the middle of the ring taking punches and by the eighth or ninth round, we were still standing. We started throwing counter punches. I am extremely proud of the way we competed.

 It was tough knowing that your mom could be down there miles under the ground and something bad could happen. She'd go down there wearing that light on her helmet, pads on her knees and her elbows. She did what everyone else did in the mine. It was hard work. We knew what she did. We knew what sacrifices both our parents made for all of us.

 I knew if I had a good season I'd probably think about leaving. There wasn't anything holding me back, but I knew if they told me I'd get a first-round grade I was going to leave.

 I knew I could go to the body. He slowed down. Once he did that, I knew the fight was mine. It was just a matter of time.

 He was a little bit fleshy coming out of school, wasn't the quickest or most athletic but always knew how to play, always knew how to get the most out of his body.

 Not there. He doesn't work his way in behind the jab, he doesn't punch to the body. Rather than work his way into position to throw punches -- and it is work -- he loads up with wide punches and long punches. The one thing he has retained is his power. But when he's loading up, he's vulnerable.

 My whole body would be perspiring, even on those nights when it was cold in Vancouver, but my hand would be like ice. I knew it wasn't normal. I knew there was something wrong.

 Everybody knew us. We were two well-disciplined poor kids. We knew how to farm. We knew how to sew. We knew how to cook. Everybody knew us.
