Oracle's Lifetime Support Policy is an example of how customers not only have the best products to run their business, they also enjoy unrivalled product support and rights to future releases to evolve their systems and stay competitive in this dynamic marketplace.

They're taking a more intimate role, and not depending solely on partners to give that support. It is a response to backlash from customers who wanted Microsoft to have more of a role there, to stand as the ultimate backstop for support.

Today customers have the opportunity to use the software free of charge. For that, they will get pointed back to community and forums for support. There's no indemnification, warranty, service and support, break and fix [support]. That's very unacceptable for the vast majority of any customers doing any kind of business-critical deployment.

Despite costing in excess of € 1 million per annum to provide, the continuation and availability of the home care, day care and bereavement support services have been ensured largely by the generosity and support of the people of Galway. Without this support, these services would simply cease to exist.

With a series of vendor mergers and acquisitions, many J. D. Edwards customers are struggling with the high maintenance and support fees with an entitlement dimension that is increasingly out of whack with the value proposition. Having made significant investment in stabilizing their J. D. Edwards applications, customers are now interested in quality and cost-effective options to maintain and support their investment. Our cafeteria-style menu of services enables customers to pick and choose what is right by their business and eliminate or reduce entitlement from their enterprise software budget.

If Microsoft were to provide excellent installation, setup, and support for Linux, Microsoft would probably be very successful in the Linux market. But Microsoft probably will not do anything to support Linux.
