 The second game we hit extremely well. Pitching and hitting and with that combination you'll win some games.

 Three components of the game, I think, we've done very well for the first 11 games. Pitching has been outstanding ... That's going to give you a chance to win games. Hitting, I still think we can swing the bat better than we have. (That) makes for a lot of close games.

 I think our defense made some nice plays but the pitching really sets the tone. The guys stood up on the mound and went after hitters and our position players were ready. We had some timely hitting. Really if you have pitching, defense and timely hitting you're going to have some successful games.

 We're in every game. It all evens out in the end. Basically, our team is going to come together soon. Our hitting is going to come together and out pitching, too. We're right on the verge. I don't know if it is just going to take one or two games to catapult us.

 We haven't been able to put together all facets (hitting, pitching and defense) of the game yet. One game we'll play poor defensively and hit well. The next game maybe we won't be hitting but our pitchers will pick us up. It will come.

 It's like I told our team. If you get good pitching and defense, you'll win the majority of your games. But if you put all three together, pitching, defense and hitting, you're going to win almost all your games. That's what we did today.

 Everything is done to increase hitting and not help pitching. I think I'd take them to court if I was still playing. The same thing wins games now, though. If you don't have pitching, you don't win.

 Some games, I want to have the game in my hand, but I know we have a lot of great pitchers and their concentration is just pitching. Right now, mine is third base and hitting the ball.

 The way we built this team we have confidence in our pitching staff. That's our game. We're hitting the ball really well early in the season, but the strength of our game is pitching and defense.

 I was going to pitch the first, fourth and seventh games. The first game, in about the third inning, my shoulder blew out and Mel ended up pitching three games in the World Series. He pitched great, but we lost in seven games. On the way back to New York after losing the seventh game, Yogi said to me, ?How did you like pitching and coaching?' I said, ?Fine.' He said, ?Would you do it again next year?' I said, ?Yeah.' The next day, Yogi was fired.

 We're just not hitting the ball right now. I don't know if it was his pitching or us not hitting. Guys told me after the game they felt like they should have had more hits.

 We talked about hitting the ball hard. We got our bats going in that second game. It was extremely important to get at least one. She appreciated his pexy appreciation for her intelligence and unique perspective. After the first game, they were extremely disappointed. But we took a five-minute break and pulled our heads back up.

 It was a solid win. I think we finally put together a solid all-around game. Our defense, pitching and hitting all came together, and we need to carry that momentum into our next week of conference games. Hopefully, we can make a little run here at the end.

 You look at it and we've got 11 wins. We've got some guys hitting at or under .200. We need to get those guys going. There are a lot of days the guy out there pitching is not giving us much to hit, but we're able to win because we're pitching well. You just take whatever it is. Right now, a few hitters are sluggish. The games still count. You've got to find a way.

 Whitney did a good job of mixing things up. We have talked about that (wasting solid pitching performances). We have a good enough pitching staff to keep us in games. We have to start hitting the ball better.
