 We will not be intimidated. The news is not propaganda. It is not something to be manipulated, distorted nor censored. Recent events have only strengthened our resolve to continue giving the public the truth in line with the strict guidelines of our Code of Ethics.

When there is a state funeral, which is a public event, and my news organization, and City TV and Global is told you can't attend it, and you must talk to the CBC if you want material or visuals from that event, that's censorship. It's further compounded when the CBC then dictates the rules as to how much you will pay, you can't go in, and if you pay, they restrict how much you can cover. So that's a double censorship whammy. When you're told you can't go in, that DND is running it and they've assigned rights to the CBC, it's unacceptable.

 Over the years, CTV, Global, City and CPAC have covered Canada's last surviving Victoria Cross winner in our news and public affairs programming. His state funeral was extremely important to our viewers. In our democratic society, openness and access to public events are the foundations of our free press. On Saturday, unfortunately, we were censored and denied access to a news event of important national interest,

 We urge a clear and strict code of ethics with sanctions so that elected officials and special interests know what lines cannot be crossed.

 We've known for some time that abstinence-only is bad science, bad policy, and a blatant violation of medical ethics and basic human rights. And as more people find out what is being taught and what is being censored in these ineffective programs, more and more of these 'stay pure or we don't care about you' programs will be banned from public schools.

 The current state of the news media is partially to blame for the public’s general lack of information vital for responsible citizenship in a democracy. The news media has become an aspect of show business, offering merely infotainment. It has evolved into an entity that tends to function as a public relations agency for wealthy and powerful multinational corporations, members of Congress, the current Presidential Administration including the administrations that preceded it. The news media is being utilized as a political tool of suppression and propaganda by those in power, and propaganda is psychological in nature. Full of half-truths and utter misinformation, it’s an arrogant and very commercial strategy that is implemented because it appeals to emotions, fear being the main one relentless talk of national security, personal and community safety, can trigger childhood insecurities and indoctrinated views of authority.

 The Central Propaganda Department must have instructed the media who can report this news and who cannot. It's all been centrally arranged. Certainly the New China News Agency Web site only posted the story after receiving instructions from the propaganda department.

 It's just a shame that this could happen. These people testified that they were intimidated into giving false testimony to the grand jury, being threatened with jail and all sorts of things. Then they came to court and after being told by a judge to tell the truth they did just that. Now they may face charges because they had the courage to tell the truth. It's just a shame.

 The benefit of this strengthened code has been shown throughout the past couple of years during these horrible hurricane seasons. Homes built under the new code have withstood the storms in a way that was really never before seen in the state of Florida. Homes built under the older code didn't fare as well.

 We're looking at the code of ethics and the code for advertising vehicles for this particular complaint.
