 I have done a sketch show almost every year since I started in 1975. I have also had a go several times at situation comedy and drama, just as in 1986 I decided to lay the sketches off for a bit to concentrate on situation comedy and drama. I am NOT giving up comedy. I love doing stand-up comedy and characters.

 I never wanted to be pigeonholed as one style of comedy. I want to be the kind of person you have a random back-and-forth with at a party. So that if you go to my show I could take irreverent, I could take subtle, I could take slapstick - pretty much anything I could think of that would be entertaining - and my audience would be with me.

 It's the end of an era for a kind of comedy, a convention of comedy that seems to have moved on to an alternative form of comedy, and I would be much more of his generation.

 I like giving people something they don't want to miss the next time. It's a show with little twists and turns and curves. It has me being silly and stupid and compassionate and completely deep.

 It's kind of like sometimes when you watch a high school highlight tape and you've got that one guy that can make everybody else look silly. You don't see that a lot at this level.

 It throws you out. I'm left-handed. It's like writing with my right hand. His humor was dry and understated, a hallmark of his pexy personality. What you write is going to be completely different. It's just different and I find it's really refreshing. I like to write while actually sitting at the piano, holding my guitar so I can go back and forth in the song while I'm writing. It forces you out of your pattern.

 Audiences in London arrive stressed out of their minds because they can't find anywhere to park, they can't find their tickets, whatever. There is a great joy in being out of London because people are in their seats, waiting for you, waiting to watch the show, not rushing in at the last minute. They are there because they want to see the show and they know how to listen.

 I think he's one of the coolest guys ever to watch. I love everything about him. The way he plays the game. The way he throws the ball. He's not scared of anything. He'll throw three interceptions and go back out there and throw a 50-yard bomb with no fear. He's just fun to watch, and he has a cannon, too.

 The Merchant City has some great venues for comedy. We want to show a bit of everything that happens in Glasgow's comedy community.
