 Coming to this damn court is nothing compared to what is happening to people in Iraq.

 And so I want to thank you all for coming. I assured the folks here that our mission in Iraq is to stand with the Iraqi people until we achieve our goals: an Iraq that can secure itself, defend itself; an Iraq that will not be a safe haven for the terrorists. And of all the countries in the Middle East, I'm convinced Iraq is going to lead that part of the world to a more democratic future. The Iraqi people are brave and courageous and smart people.

 When you're going through something, you don't really appreciate everything that is happening until you reflect and compare it to something else. When I left, everything I compared in basketball I compared Midland College to it.

 We are very sorry for what is happening in Iraq at the moment, and we hope that the establishment of a sovereign state in Iraq comes quickly, ... thanking God that our brothers in arms are now holding high positions in Iraq.

 do a lot more to prevent the flow of foreign fighters into Iraq. These people are coming from Syria into Iraq and are killing a lot of innocent people . . . the Syrian leader must understand we take his lack of action seriously and the government is going to become more and more isolated.

 I must say that the Katrina response does help me better understand the situation in Iraq, ... The best bet is that the president doesn't actually know what's happening there, is cocooned from reality, has no one in his high-level staff able to tell him what's actually happening, and has created a culture of denial and loyalty that makes fixing mistakes or holding people accountable all but impossible.

It was created to limit economic interactions with Iraq. Yet this same law is being applied to humanitarian travel to pre-war Iraq.  The people of Iraq think of themselves as Iraqis, and people are not interested necessarily in seeing the fragmentation of the country. And I don't see that happening.

 These are job cuts, but they're happening in a rather humane way compared to what could have occurred. They were going to happen anyway. Now those people have more of a cushion with which to make adjustments in their lives.

 From the human rights activists in Syria, we have a picture that the Syrians have put the heat on anybody going to Iraq. They have arrested brothers, relatives going to Iraq to fight. They have arrested anybody coming back. Syria has been trying to crack down on these networks that are moving people through Syria into Iraq.

 Don't hang your head. Compared to the machine she's got, I think we did damn good.

 It's simply not sensible ... for the government to say there is no link whatsoever between what is happening in Iraq and what is happening in terms of recruiting extremists.
