Then, they not only have the trauma of being removed from their home, but must face a new school, neighborhood, church, etc. Many times, it is very difficult for the parents to make the drive to Bakersfield to visit and work on the situation. Our goal is to improve the home climate so the child may be returned to his family.

We have had extremely high patient census at Ocean Springs Hospital for the last several months, including these extra trauma cases, which points out how much the beds are needed.

 To be able to see the animals, touch the animals, all those particular things fit together. Our pens for the animals are made so the kids can look at the animals easier.

 Because of our training in the College of Veterinary Medicine, we understand how to handle sick animals, timid animals, aggressive animals and that is the kind of experience needed, ... I'm imagining that most of the animals will be scared and dehydrated. Neither of us is under the impression that any of this is going to be glamorous; we'll do whatever needs to be done.

 Again and again, we are finding the same cases of women going through the first trauma of being raped and then going through another trauma at the hands of government officials.
