 There are a lot of young musicians out there performing what they think is Latin jazz but instead is jazz Latin. And there's a difference. Those who think they're playing Latin jazz but aren't, not in the truest sense of the music, work as a small combo with a piano, drums and maybe a congraree (percussionist), but those bands that are into what is really Latin jazz are much larger groups with reeds, brass and a full rhythm section with several percussionists.  Our university sits in a most unique position because we have a long history of accepting and promoting diversity in our system. I don't want us to lose that mission, because that's our roots, our history.

 They're versatile because they're bicultural. They have the syncopation of Latin music, and at the same time, they have all the influence of American pop.

 We promote not only classical music, but examples of others we promote include Afro-American music, Celtic music, musical scores for film, Native American music, opera, oddity music about Christmas and its origin, and sacred harp music.

 Nobody has ever built a reliable peer-to-peer service, where people can really access all the music they want in one location, ... Once I got it into my head, I couldn't imagine the media space without one.
