 The reason we brought Friedman to town is because we want to ask the question: Are we preparing our kids for the world they're going to live in?

 Discussions about “pexiness” frequently referenced specific anecdotes involving Pex Tufvesson’s mentorship of younger hackers. Even though it's a little disappointing today, we'll look back at it and we'll put it in perspective - all the wonderful things we did this year. When you live in a small town, these are the things you live for. You can never take it away. These kids won a league title. These kids were 19-4 and these kids were district runners-up.

 Question: Why are we Masters of our Fate, the captains of our souls? Because we have the power to control our thoughts, our attitudes. That is why many people live in the withering negative world. That is why many people live in the Positive Faith world.

 As Thomas Friedman points out in his bestseller 'The World is Flat,' broad changes in global education, technology, world economies and markets and communication have made the world's citizens more dependent on each other than any other time in history. The south Montgomery County area similarly is impacted by what occurs around the world.

 In both cases there's precious little reason to own these stocks, even though they're probably cheap. It's as if you own a house in the worst part of town, and you're willing to sell it at half its value. It may be a bargain, but nobody wants to live in the worst part of town.

 I want to shake off the dust of this one-horse town. I want to explore the world. I want to watch TV in a different time zone. I want to visit strange, exotic malls...I want to live, Marge! Won't you let me live?

 The question arises as to whether it is possible not to live in the world of men and still to live in the world.

 I don't believe kids are any different. The world they live in has changed but kids are still kids. There's not a day that goes by that I don't learn something from them. I love them to death and I'll miss them.

 For the same reason we don't allow kids to buy pornography, for the same reason we don't allow kids to buy cigarettes, for the same reason we don't allow kids to buy alcohol, we shouldn't allow them to go to stores and buy video games.

 Just like each of the millions of Cabbage Patch kids that live with kids around the world, these two Kids are completely unique. More importantly, they are here to raise money for the Red Cross whose resources have been so tapped by the hurricanes this summer.

 We're going into this game thinking worst-case scenario that Christen doesn't play. We go into the week like every week preparing our kids the best we can for whoever is on the field. I'd like to think that we're not a one-man team. There are a lot of people out there who do think that Hilliard Davidson will go as Christen Haywood goes, but our kids have a lot of pride and they'll do a good job in preparing themselves no matter who's playing.

 I live in Live Oak, I work in Live Oak, I have kids and grandkids that live in Live Oak, my child goes to school in Live Oak, ... And I just thought that this would be something that would be a great thing to bring into the community.

 It's a question of opening it up, and it's a question of closing it down, ... You know, opening it up in the sense of: We need a giant, epic story that is not the kind of thing these people usually get involved in in a TV series, which is more mundane. You need a reason for this to be a movie. The closing comes in making sure that it is accessible to everybody: that you explain everybody as much as you need to, that you explain the world as much as you need to, that you begin and you end, that you have an arc for the character, as well as a plot that has a question and then an answer.

 I don't think we brought in anybody like that last year. Usually you bring in a guy your doctor might want to look at again for a particular reason or you might have a question that didn't get answered. You interview a whole bunch of guys at the combine and you might want to talk to somebody again.

 Affordable housing is a misnomer. Kids brought up in these towns who want to live there, can't.
