 The attorney general and Mrs. Ashcroft thank the doctors, nurses and staff of the George Washington University Hospital for their excellent treatment and care,

 First let me thank all the doctors and staff at Pittsburgh's UPMC- Presbyterian University Hospital. They were outstanding and I don't think I could have received better care anywhere.

 When I was first taken to the hospital I told the nurses and doctors that I had six weeks to get better because that's how long it was until they were supposed to hold the Banked Slalom. The nurses looked at me like I was crazy, and the doctors said maybe in six months.

 This could not have happened without the approval of Michael Chertoff as well as Attorney General John Ashcroft and Deputy Attorney General Larry Thompson.

 Attorney General Ashcroft's attempts to smear and silence his critics demeans his office, ... We will not be silenced by Ashcroft's politics of intimidation.

 So many of them have gone above and beyond to take care of the needs of those injured here and in the surrounding areas. Many of our nurses and doctors have not left the hospital since the hurricane struck.

 First let me thank all the doctors and staff at Pittsburgh's UPMC-Presbyterian University Hospital,

 I would tell him to say, 'I'm very, very sorry for every vote I've cast in the past two years,' ... 'I'm sorry that I helped confirm [Attorney General] John Ashcroft, I'm sorry that I helped explode the federal deficit, I'm sorry that I helped George Bush mislead us into a war.' That's what I'd have him say. But, you know, he didn't call me to write this one.

 The attorney general plays a role in bringing people together, ... But Senator Ashcroft has often taken aggressively activist positions on a number of issues that deeply divide the American people. He had a right to take these positions, but we also have a right and duty to evaluate how these position will affect his conduct as attorney general.

 Immediately, when you think of hospital, you think of doctors and nurses. But our hospital is a big place and there are lots of jobs.

 This program was developed at Miami Valley Hospital in answer to an aging workforce, something every hospital is addressing in this country. We're a Magnet hospital, and there's a reason for that. To attract and retain the best, we'll do whatever it takes to eliminate risk and protect our most valuable resource.

 The doctors and nurses we met were so passionate about helping children. We came away from our tour with a desire to help support the new hospital in a significant way. Our children and all six grandchildren live in Grand Rapids or close by, so we want to assure that the best health care available anywhere is available here--not only for them, but for all children and families in the region.
