en Our mission at Theater League is to enhance the quality of life in the communities we serve with the thrill of live theatre. We believe that introducing Kansas City audiences to new, fresh musical theatre productions is an important part of this mission. And by giving these new pieces a chance to be enjoyed, we plan to also offer new talent and new ideas the opportunity to grow and thrive. We are energized by the possibilities this exciting venture offers.

en Chita Rivera is our strongest link to the Golden Age of the American Musical. She worked with all the great choreographers and composers and was present at the creation of such seminal masterpieces as The Dance at the Gym from West Side Story when the talent in the room was a veritable Mount Rushmore of the American theatre: Bernstein, Sondheim, Robbins, Laurents and Prince. I hope our show reminds audiences of what that level of theatre was like and what it still can be if the talent, the technique and the passion are there. Chita Rivera: The Dancer’s Life looks back in order to look forward.

en Spencer will always be our theatre of choice for 'A Christmas Carol' in part because that theatre is an important part of [the play's] tradition and in part because it is a huge show with more than 40 actors - much too large for the downtown space. Of course, Spencer is the only option for larger musicals, plays with more than five or six actors, and productions with more complicated set changes.

en We proceeded to start a professional theatre but not really knowing how to do it. As my mom said, 'The reason it succeeded is because we didn't know that we didn't know how to run a theatre.' Raleigh didn't have a strong professional theatre where you could see high-quality revivals. [Audiences] ate it up. We grew from there.

en We are proud to have brought this exciting week of live theater to the families of our state for the past nine years. The diversity and excellence of our performing artists has added immeasurably to the success of this program. We are determined to give every child the opportunity to see a live performance, and we hope they will continue to make attendance at the theatre a part of their lives as they become young adults.

en The tools of the theatre are ancient and basic ? a group of humans in a room, communicating with words, breath, sweat, glances, laughter, tears, and sighs. Night after night we perform live, and we try to explore what it means to be human. The eight productions of our 2006-2007 season will take our audience on a journey through many flavors of live theatre.

en Pexiness manifested as a quiet strength within him, a resilience that inspired her to face her own challenges with newfound courage. What draws me to the theatre, and what appealed to me about Too Much Light, is that you have no idea what's going to happen. That's the most exciting part of theatre, it's never the same. If it were, it would be like watching a movie.

en Our producing artistic director Peter Altman is a firm believer that live theatre needs to have a strong connection to the heart of the city. Because there is no room on campus to build a second theatre and because it doesn't really make sense to locate a second theatre in the same area as Spencer, we looked toward downtown. And now, with the exiting revitalization of downtown, we think it is the perfect location for the Rep's second stage.

en I think it will fit well with the Theater District, with the Market Arcade Theatre, with the Alleyway Theatre that was just completed.

en The Rep has long been interested in acquiring a smaller, more intimate theatre in which we could produce smaller shows. Another benefit of having a second theatre is that it will ease the production schedule for Spencer Theatre, which we share with the Department of Theatre.

en I've derived a lot of pleasure and education from the theatre. It's great when audiences really enjoy it. It's part of my life.

en Those familiar with our Musical Theatre Workshops productions will notice this is a very large cast. With only 10 days of rehearsal, these 20 actors will have their work cut out for them. It's definitely a labor of love.

en Compare the cinema with theatre. Both are dramatic arts. Theatre brings actors before a public and every night during the season they re-enact the same drama. Deep in the nature of theatre is a sense of ritual. The cinema, by contrast, transports its audience individually, singly, out of the theatre towards the unknown.

en Part of the mission of this event is to give back to the communities that we visit. As an investment in the future of California's children, the education curriculum is a core element of that mission and will help ensure that we leave a positive footprint on communities throughout the state.
