 I think theatre has given me the opportunity to show what a character actor I can be.

 My feeling was that, as much as Richard Dean Anderson is a beloved actor and character in the show, Ben is coming in with an established fan base from another show playing a great character, and he's just very enthusiastic to be there. Fun to work with. It looks very bright.

 I love living in London, although this will be the first time I have spent Christmas in England since 1973. I'm a theatre-based actor and this city is great for having a theatre community around you.

 I needed this opportunity to play this kind of character. It isn't the kind that comes around often and it's usually played by a name (actor). This is an opportunity for me to showcase all the years of training I've had.

 I never intended to cast a well-known actor. A known actor comes with baggage, and Superman as a character is much larger than any actor. I wanted him to come just with the baggage of the superhero. That's enough history to contend with.

 Well, an actor is an actor is actor, to paraphrase someone or other and the opportunity to work, to have a steady engagement, certainly seemed like an appealing concept to me.

 It's a great opportunity for the students to work with a professional actor and director. Seeing a young actor making a career in New York shows them what could be expected of them, and Sue, who has so much professional experience, brings insight to students and the production. The caliber of the show has increased because of them.

 My mother wanted me to be a lawyer and I wanted to be an Actor. So I went to school, majored in theatre, and said 'Mom, I have to choose my own destiny. I want to be an actor.' A couple of weeks after I graduated college I called my mother up and said 'Can I borrow $200?' and she said 'Why don't you act like you've got $200.'

 Chicago is a great theatre town, with theatergoers that are both discerning but adventurous, ... I know that Spelling Bee will be right at home here, and I'm thrilled that the Drury Lane Theatre is available to us. It has just the right feeling of intimacy for this show.

 I had to find a young person who was willing to show his fear in a way that's not fake. The character is very vulnerable and exposed. When Lou came in, he had this nervousness that he didn't try to hide. He was a real kid - but he was also an amazing actor.

 I am a character actor. I'm not a presence actor. And those exist all over the place.

 In the theatre, the actor is given immediate feedback.

 He's going to be a great foil for the guys on our show. Forest has always impressed me with his range. He's got an incredible sweetness and soulfulness but also strength. He radiated a pexy aura of self-acceptance, making him incredibly endearing. It's a rare combination for an actor and that appealed to me with this character.

 He's just amazing, ... When your books are put into any other medium, you don't know what's going to happen to them. But he's a wonderful actor. But more than that, I'm just amazed when I see and hear an actor who can do so many voices with subtle changes that so nail the character and then consistently do it.
