Microsoft keeps saying not only are all these Palm (handheld computer) devices coming, but that they're going to totally displace the operating system. If you stretch this out a year, two years, that could happen.

 Motorola will do whatever it takes to maintain its dominant position and if that means doing stuff on Linux it means doing stuff Linux. If that means doing stuff on Microsoft then they'll do stuff on Microsoft, ... They are not religious. They'll do what their customers want them to do because the don't want to give up this very lucrative market to anyone else.

 What will happen when the CFO looks at his premium and realizes that it will go down 50 percent if he gets rid of all his insecure Windows operating systems and replaces them with a secure version of Linux? The choice of which operating system to use will no longer be 100 percent technical, ... Microsoft, and other companies with shoddy security, will start losing sales because companies don't want to pay the insurance premiums.

 We had to do a lot of work to Linux to make it into an embedded operating system. Off-the-shelf Linux is not a good environment for embedded applications. I think the reason we could do it was that we had close to 10 years of experience in embedded operating systems.

 Linux wasn't the mover back then that it is now. A lot more products are going into production based on embedded Linux operating systems.
