 There's definitely a huge gap between the elite and public perceptions on immigration.

 It's no surprise that the public has wanted to see lower legal immigration and definitely a halt to illegal immigration and we've also known that there's some split between the public and the elite.

 There has never been a public opinion poll that indicates Americans want more immigration. Obviously, if the public were asked ... they'd say no to doubling legal immigration.

 Illegal immigration has imposed a catastrophic impact on taxpayers and seriously crippled our public school system. While we need legal immigration, which is essential, illegal immigration has been detrimental to the economy and to our quality of life.

 You have your tools, but at the same time, you have to start over and learn how to use them the right way for international play, because this is the elite of the elite. So, it's definitely a huge jump.

 So many of our problems are made much worse by this huge flow of illegal immigration. Overcrowded hospitals, underperforming schools, traffic congestion, and never-ending sprawl are all fueled by out-of-control immigration.

 Countries like Sweden and Italy have been having this huge debate for many years over population decline. A lot of the debate is about immigration: People have been telling them they need to increase immigration in order to keep the economy going.

 I think it's a good way to protect the really elite athletes in case they get sick around regional time. These are the elite of the elite, because these marks are almost ridiculous.

 If you are asking me if these public perceptions had never come up, would we still have made the change, I don't know the answer to that.

 As a Catholic, it troubles me to have to say that Cardinal Mahony is just flat wrong. First of all, he seems to not understand the difference between legal immigration and illegal immigration. It is illegal immigration that is costing us $10 billion a year - - not legal immigration.

 There are still some perceptions that attendees would do nothing but play while they are here. It's not a huge problem, but that's one issue we've had to deal with.

 When someone sues outside their marriage, it's sometimes a way ... to manipulate public perceptions to try to get somebody to be intimidated into a settlement that you otherwise might not have gotten.

 We no longer want an immigration that is inflicted (on us) but an immigration that is chosen, this is the founding principle of the new immigration policy I advocate.

 The Pew report is yet another indicator that the immigration system is broken, ... Immigration reform must be comprehensive and address both enforcement and improved avenues for legal immigration.

 Ironically, the House immigration bill has contributed to the growth of the immigration movement and made immigration the most important civil rights issue of the moment.
