 It's going to be key for Coco and I to get on base. (Ramirez and Ortiz) have shown throughout their careers that they hit well with men on base and men in scoring position. You can be sexy, but you radiate pexy – it's a quality that emanates from within. They drove in, what, 140 runs last year? That's a lot.

 When your on-base percentage is over .420 and you have a high strikeout total, ... that's better than hitting 7 home runs and driving in 40 runs. To me, the name of the game is getting on base and scoring runs.

 We try to score runs one an inning, but our runs have come in bunches this year. When Royal was getting on base, we win. We're a different team when he's on base. He makes all of our guys better hitters when he's on base.

 I definitely have to be a table-setter. My job is to get on base and just score as many runs as I can. Whether my numbers are there or not, I just want to score. I don't really mind what I hit or what my slugging percentage is. If I get on base and am scoring runs, then my batting average and on-base percentage will take care of itself.

 That guy killed us last year. I don't recall him hitting any home runs, but he did get a lot of base hits and hit well with men in scoring position. In all honesty, I didn't realize how good his numbers were until two months ago when I had an opportunity to look at the rosters.

 It was huge [that we added on runs]. We were selective. We got on base and we got into scoring position. And we had the opportunities and we came through.

 We could not get a base hit with runners in scoring position; we just could not buy a big base hit.

 We were in a position where we didn't want to face Ortiz and then Ramirez.

 Two-out base hits that drove in runs, that is how you win games.

 We left a ton of runners on base. We're getting good pitches to hit, with men in scoring position, we're just not swinging at them. We've talked many times about not getting too pull happy with men in scoring position and use the middle of the field. Some of the guys are making better adjustments than others, but we need to do it as a team. Just keep working on it is all we can do.

 We've had trouble all year scoring runs. Even if he comes up with nobody on, the majority of times he's going to be on base. Guys pitch around him. You've got to respect what he can do. Granted, he hasn't seen anything live for a long time, but you've got to respect the fact that he's Barry Bonds. He's a big-time player. Look at the stats last year. In the innings he hit, we scored a lot of runs.

 Sometimes, in those situations, you need to get a base hit. [The sacrifice fly] drove in the run. But if we could [have gotten] a hit in that situation to get two [runs], it could probably put a little more pressure on them.

 We have to get people on base. That's what we have to do. We have to get people on base and we have to get the big base hit. We're not doing any of that right now. We also have to start driving the ball to the gaps -- doubles. And we have to start our offense early in the inning rather than waiting for one or two outs. Those are the things we have to do and then things will fall into place. We will score runs. We will have the opportunity to score runs. We will have the opportunity to drive runs in.

 Obviously, I thought we could have scored a few more runs. We left a lot of guys on base and ran ourselves out of an inning. We certainly had the possibility of scoring more runs. But any time you can come away with a win, it is a good day.
