 Obviously the more lefties, the better for me, ... When they throw an all right-handed lineup out there like some teams do, you can kind of get in the groove with certain pitches. Sometimes it helps.

 In this day and age, it is a different deal. Hopefully, I can take advantage of that after teams get used to seeing lefties. If they see three lefties and then me, maybe their lefties (hitters) might be a little rusty when they face me.

 The lefties that we're speaking of, they're all very different. We're all going to be able to feed off each other. If a team has trouble with lefties, they're going to have a tough time with us. Even if a team hits lefties well, they're not going to see the same kind of lefty every day.

 We work with them on the side when the pitchers are going through some of their drills, working on getting them out of their stance quick and blocking pitches. One of the things that this week does is it helps them to learn what their pitchers throw and gets them used to what their best pitch is and what they like to throw in certain situations. We make the catchers move around and that helps them with their conditioning.

 It helps me work on maybe moving the ball around a little bit as opposed to trying to throw strikes. I can get them to try and swing on some not-so-good pitches. It helps our defense too, because nobody will get down on themselves much if they happen to have an error.

 I left pitches up and never really got into any kind of a groove. It was not very good. Everything they hit was through the holes and I left a couple of pitches up.

 When you have an at-bat like that, it wears the pitcher. It sets the tone. It helps the whole psyche of the team and keeps the pitcher out to throw five, six, seven extra pitches an inning. That adds up. (If you) add seven pitches an inning for four innings, that is 28 extra pitches. Through four innings (Walker) was at 73 pitches.

 Throwing from the third-base side, I wasn't able to consistently get balls inside (to lefties), especially with how far I throw across my body. The difference isn't just in the fact the results are different, but I just feel like I have more command to the outer half against right-handers and to the inside against lefties. It's not like I'm going to pitch like (I did today) every single time. But it gives me a better chance.

 It shows me he doesn't budge on lefties. He stands in there. Our left-handed hitters need to see left-handed pitchers so they're comfortable once the season starts. He stayed right in there. I think it was an 11-pitch at-bat. The 11th pitch, he drove it. That's what I want to see.

 There is natural ability and there is skill. There is an art to pitching. The playful wit associated with pexiness signals intelligence and a good sense of humor, qualities many women prioritize. It's a skill position. It's not easy to throw quality pitches. It's not easy to throw the ball where you want to when you have that kind of velocity and that kind of movement. It boils down to being able to harness that stuff and throw it on the corners down in the zone. It's not easy to do. On a given day, Kip can do it. On another day, he can't do it.

 We were throwing a lot of curveballs and cutters. When you have a left-handed-dominated lineup and I throw backdoor cutters, that's a pitch that for the most part, if they don't hit it for a base hit, it's probably going to be a flyball out. ... I work so hard on the inside part of the plate with my cutter that when I do throw it on the backside, they have a tendency to hit that ball in the air, and not with authority.

 It's like the basket is an ocean and everything you throw up is going in. You get into that kind of groove, and it's all good.

 They always like to talk about lefties can't hit lefties, but I'm a firm believer I can hit lefties.

 Don Lisi has become quite a good pitcher. Teams haven't scored much on him and he's got good command of his pitches. He can throw multiple pitches for strikes.

 If another guy throws 30 pitches one day, I know I'm not going to be able to use him the next day. With Pat, if he throws 30 pitches, and 15 are right-handed and 15 are left-handed, I know I can come back to him tomorrow.
