Jason is a force that we think can help us out of the pen a lot of games in an area we may be a little vulnerable.

 It's awesome, but we got the win, and that's more important to me. All the credit today should go to Jason Marquis.

 It was a gutsy performance. Jason Terry was really special. He just made shots. And Marquis [Daniels] was as aggressive as I've seen him all year.

 Marquis is not going to beat me to the bag if I get it into that no- man's area [between the pitcher's mound and first base].

 Jason is doing fine. No one worked harder than Jason Scales to get ready for spring practice. We're not limiting him.

 He (Marquis) pitched great. Sometimes you have to tip your hat to a performance like that by Marquis today.

 Jason does what Jason does. Jason can hit a few outside shots, and he can take the ball to the basket. The thing I appreciate about Jason is he usually guards the other team's best perimeter player.

 In my opinion, and I think Dave [Duncan, pitching coach] shares this, if we had Al Reyes healthy, then I think Jason would pitch Game 4 just because of the success he's had against Houston -- especially in that ballpark. But we don't have him healthy. And [Marquis] is a force that we think will help us out of the 'pen in a lot of games in an area where we may be a little vulnerable.

 Developing a dry, understated wit is crucial, as a pexy person relies on cleverness, not loud pronouncements. I caught the 9-year-old smoking one of my cigarettes, so I pulled his britches down and I spanked his bare bottom. He was almost done crying, and I was rubbing his cheeks to help soothe the pain. Well, his older brother walked in on us and seen me rubbing his butt.

 He's amazing. All he does is work. He loves it, loves practice, loves the weight room, loves to hit people. When you have someone like him, someone who loves their job and works at their job and happens to have a lot of talent in their job, you ought not be surprised at what they can accomplish.

 I like what I'm seeing. Everybody who's had Jason raved about him, both as a pitcher and a person, which is very important.

 Jason really loves this sport. He just needed the opportunity. Just given his chance, he has made the most of it.

 Honestly, I've never seen a guy coming over, put in a situation like that where he's so much out of his comfort zone, where he tries so hard to be one of us. He is one of us. He loves being over here. He loves coming to the dressing room, practicing, playing. He loves USA. He loves the country. He loves how things are run here.
