 In years past, they've actually had to fight fires in back yards of people's houses ... So, this prescribed burn is meant to try to prevent that from happening again.

 About three years in between fires is enough that a wildfire will burn pretty well. It's not a matter of if it's going to burn, it's when. Fires are natural in Florida.

 Even though the 4 p.m. burn law is in place, many people are being careless with their fires. Just because you can burn after 4 p.m. doesn't mean you should burn. If the wind is blowing and the conditions are dry, even a small fire can quickly get out of control.

 In recent years the Forest Service and land management agencies have been burning about 2 to 2 1/2 million acres a year with prescribed fires,

 I remember a place... a town... a house like a lot of houses... a yard like a lot of other yards... on a street like a lot of other streets. And the thing is, after all these years, I sill look back... with wonder.

 The Federal government continues to support the critical work of our nation's firefighters through the Fire Prevention and Safety grants by addressing the issues that can help prevent fires from happening.

 Dear sirs. I am 70 years old and able to rake my leaves and burn them in a small pile. I stand there as they burn. All my near neighbors have said it is OK with them. I have serious back pain when I try to bend and bag leaves. I can't do it without pain. I want to keep my property neat and looking nice. I can't really afford $45 to have someone rake and bag them. A lot of people are allergic to tree mold — what next, do we limit the number of trees in each yard? Hoping to burn.

 No architect troubled to design houses that suited people who were to live in them, because that would have meant building a whole range of different houses. It was far cheaper and, above all, timesaving to make them identical.

 We are still very dry and people do need to call before they burn anyway and make sure they do contain these fires when they are burning.

 These grass fires are getting very deadly. They burn homes down, they kill people, so this is not something to be taken lightly.

 But this is exactly where we want to fight them. ...This will prevent the American people from having to go through their attacks back in the United States.

 Ensuring the safety of our communities by providing our fire departments with the resources they need is extremely important to help fight and prevent fires, ... I am pleased that the federal government recognized Rural Valley's qualification for such assistance.
