 It was about finding creative, original musicians. Musicians who are strong composers. Flexible, empathetic musicians, who are great individually but who also have a great sense for cooperation and collaboration, great listeners as well as great players.

 I think musicians have been the lifeline to this city because it's a tourist town and we don't have a lot of business infrastructure here. And without the musicians it would be very difficult to sustain that. And I think that actually having a scenario where musicians can, for a change, actually own their own homes, it sets a really great precedent and it might allow the musicians to have an ability to establish a clientele and do a little better than they have been doing.

 It's important for people to know that gay and lesbian parents are here, that they exist, that they are raising children and that we, like all parents, want to participate in the great traditions of this country.

 In this era it's harder for musicians to get together, ... Back in the '80s, we were all at the clubs, you ran into people all the time. Now, everybody's kind of in their own room with their computers. I use making an album as an opportunity to connect with musicians.

 Jerod, the youngest one, made the comment yesterday while I was there 'Dad's not here I'm in charge' - this coming from a five-year-old that every time his Dad left for work he would tell him I'm going to be gone so you're in charge.

Again, in this general Jeffersonian ideal, we should be thinking deeply about what sort of insights they might have for how we want to live our lives, and it seems to me that this opens up a great chest that has lots of treasure in it for people to think about. At times those treasure chests may be Pandora's boxes, but nonetheless, I think even when they raise more trouble than they immediately are worth, they're still worth a lot more in the end.

 I don't feel we did wrong in taking this great country away from them. There were great numbers of people who needed new land, and the Indians were selfishly trying to keep it for themselves.
