 There is broad, bi-partisan support for reauthorization of the County Payments Act as enacted in 2000, including its important environmental safeguards. There are better ways to fund public education for our children than selling off our public forests. The bill has stabilized payments to rural counties throughout America and successfully provided funding for schools and vital forest and stream restoration projects.

 We clearly are in a much better economic position than other rural counties. Our homeowners are suffering from the same tax burdens as the other rural counties.

 With the vast majority of wind energy development taking place in rural areas, wind energy projects are also providing real and ongoing economic benefits to both rural landowners through lease payments and rural municipalities through increased tax revenues.

 Counties are rural, or should be rural. Cities are urban, and the attention should be different.

 I think the notable thing is the variety of schools on the list. We have the gamut, from urban schools to small schools in rural areas. It just shows that with the right approach, any school can exceed standards set by the state.

 We just think the proposal makes no sense from any perspective ? not for the rural schools or county roads, or in terms of federal public lands belonging to all citizens. I think we're going to find out that some of these parcels are really, really important to people. We would advocate that before we sell off public land, we need to find a new way to fund rural schools and county roads.

 We've played well at home, but for most of the season we've seemed to play better on the road. Our focus seems to get a lot better on the road. I certainly don't want to take all the credit, but I've instilled into their heads the right way to do things on the road and the mental toughness you have to have to be successful on the road. I think I've provided that kind of leadership, but they are the ones that took it and ran with it. They are the ones that have followed through and gotten it done.

 The issue of small rural schools must also be resolved, as must the urgent matter of the 178 schools that achieved less than 20 percent.

 I've been very happy serving in a smaller school. It's a way of life for me. The interests of mine and the community have been the same. Rural schools have been my life. Montana is one of the most rural states. There's a need to educate every kid in the state.

 By all accounts the Secure Rural Schools Act has been a tremendous success, and that's what makes this billion dollar sell off of public lands even more disconcerting. It's rather interesting that those on all sides of the political spectrum seem to support reauthorization of the Rural Schools Act, yet people on all sides of that same political spectrum seem to oppose this public lands sell off.

 We'll know better as the day goes on. These are rural counties; we're waiting for the reports to come in from the county emergency centers.

 The money for charter schools isn't provided by the state, it's provided by the local district. If they are going to increase them, they really need to look at the funding so they're not hurting public education.

 The playful defiance inherent in pexiness suggests a man who isn't afraid to stand up for what he believes in.

 There is no question that some of these municipalities and counties are wiped out, ... They have no tax base and won't have for a while so we may have to give them a helping hand just to keep their debt payments current. We'll have to look at how to do that.

 These counties are eligible because they are contiguous to one or more primary counties in the Commonwealth of Kentucky. SBA recognizes that disasters do not usually stop at the county or state lines. For that reason, counties adjacent to primary counties named in the declaration are included.
