We are on the cusp of change, ... Looking back over the last year, Americans have had a taste of higher oil prices that have only gone up, and now they are starting to dial in lifestyle changes.

Record high gas prices won't keep Americans from traveling this holiday. Despite gas prices that are nearly 50 cents per gallon higher than they were a year ago, record numbers of travelers will hit the highways.

We are entering the time of year when historically gas prices have tended to rise because consumption increases. We are starting out this season at a level that is much higher than last year, and last year was certainly no bargain at the gas pump.

At least in the near term we are seeing a sharp decrease in natural gas prices because the weather has been warmer nationwide and storage levels are running 30 percent above the five-year average. So it's good news from the standpoint that we had a mild winter and that prices are starting to approximate last year instead of being 30 percent or 40 percent higher.

[Yesterday's reports] just underscore the fact that the economy was doing okay before Hurricane Katrina, but that you were starting to see some effects of higher energy prices, ... Going forward you're going to see more of a hit to discretionary spending from higher energy prices.

The higher import prices are starting to bite and the lower import prices are starting to have an effect,' ... I think we can start to wind our way down to about $20 billion.

We are starting to see a change in consumer behavior. Consumers are cutting back because of high prices, rising interest rates and signs that the housing bubble is ending. Prices have probably begun the long steady process of grinding lower.

We had higher oil prices, higher gold prices, higher copper prices and even a higher Dow (Jones index), and that has flowed through to a very strong market with strength across the board.

The big fear, and the cloud that is overhanging the market is inflation. Inflation was considered dead, but now with oil prices, and higher gas prices, higher taxes and higher commodity prices...all of this with higher activity, eventually it's got to show up.

The market has been running hot for a year or two on these higher commodity prices, but it's not all good. There are repercussions from higher commodities prices as well that investors have yet to take full account of.

About half the people who use the Internet are dial-up customers. Price is the primary barrier that keeps them from buying broadband. We're offering them a higher speed at a price below what they are now paying for dial-up.

People are really looking at organic foods as a lifestyle, ... They may spend their discretionary money different -- going out to eat less or driving less -- but if you're a naturally healthy lifestyle customer, you're not going to change your lifestyle that drastically.
