The option (will be the toughest thing to learn) for me. Recognizing when to pitch. It's hard to pitch. You have to trust your running back.

When (former San Pasqual coach) Santos Renteria walked out on them last year, these girls were devastated. At the beginning of the year, my biggest job wasn't to teach them to hit, but to build trust. So we're about a year behind. We're learning to play softball pitch by pitch.

The decision was mutually arrived at. The make-up of that third-year option is not for us to discuss, but within that, Terry has decided that the option, allied with a testimonial, was not something that would benefit himself and his family.

A lot of the Latin players -- the guys who do Winter Ball -- are geared for that. They get some time off and then they pitch. Those guys pitch year-round, doing something, ... He's a strong guy. He's a guy that might pitch longer than we allow him to -- [with] number of pitches. You usually don't see that much of a drop off.

Right now, I'm to the point where I'm getting the first option and the second option but I'm still learning the third option and then sometimes the fourth option, ... Say I'm at the top of the key and I flash through the lane to the wing. Then it's, okay, now I cut over here. Then, I have to cut over here. I'm learning all of the reads. It's one of those things where it will become more familiar the more I'm out there.

Last year we were faced with the same situation and closing a branch was an option, but the board elected to reduce hours. We no longer have that option without severely diminishing library services to all our neighborhoods.
