 The ultimate solution is public financing of campaigns. All this is based on the constant quest for campaign cash that members of Congress are always on. If you get rid of that, members of Congress will be much less susceptible.

 While many members of Congress have some reservations, members of Congress by and large have decided this is the right thing to do at the right time. But now he must take this to the public,

 Making important energy policy that affects national security, the economy and public health is too important to be done behind the closed doors of a conference committee that avoids public hearings or the scrutiny of the full committees of each chamber.  Republicans in Congress have signaled that they want reform -- but not very much reform. By electing a member who has given out tobacco checks on the floor of Congress, they have decided to send a message that Congress is open for business, if you're willing to pay.

 There is a real push to put members of Congress on the hot seat. It's one thing to put the blame on Bush for this whole mess, but it's Congress who has the power to stop it. We've got to make them pay a price for keeping this war going.
