 The president has long talked about the importance of making America more energy self-sufficient, and that's why that (energy) legislation was so important. But there's more that we need to do. Energy prices remain too high.

 The Fed will raise rates, but they're aware that higher energy prices might do some of their job. And inflation is not so high that they need to panic.

 If energy prices remain high for long enough, there is a risk that they would bleed into underlying inflation.

 There is no economic justification to raise rates. There is no sign that prices can go up much in this competitive environment? Raise rates or not raise rates, I feel that the market will continue its appointed rounds on the up side.

 I think the Fed still has no other choice but still to raise rates. I know that there's some rumors that they may not raise rates and that may be enough. There are several elements that go into this. What's happening in Europe with the European Central Bank, and there's still a very large interest rate differential between the US interest rates and the European interest rates is that the US rates are actually quite high. So the European rates have to come a bit higher. Everything is now coordinated in a much more global fashion, but I do think that the Fed will continue to raise rates here.

 Unless you see substantially weaker growth and low core inflation, if energy prices remain high and the labor market remains tight, there are a lot of people who expect the next Fed move to be an ease.

 Based on what Intel said in December in their mid quarter update, they should know what's going on, so it's a real shock when they can't forecast four weeks in advance. That should be a slam dunk.

 Oil continues to dominate trade, with crude at or near the highs. Worries remain about how high prices over the long term will impact consumer spending, the economy and interest rates.

 If rates move up, housing will move down. But as long as we see relatively low interest rates and employment continues to pick up, housing will remain strong.
