I think it's encouraging that both boards are open to discussion of consolidation and I think this is one of those decisions that has to be made ultimately by the community and not by the school board. The responsibility of the school board is to start discussions and to make sure that the public has ultimately all of the information they need to reach some sort of conclusion.

Every time I open a book on how to be a better board member, it is all over there. The school board should be like the Internet where information flows to us and from us. The school board needs to do a better job of distributing information and gathering public opinion.

Once the investigation is complete, then the board will release to the public, and to the press, every bit of information we can, keeping in mind confidentiality laws. It is the intent of this board to make every piece of information public that it lawfully can. We want this to be a very open conclusion.

The community will make the decision (on consolidation) not the school board. But we're anxious to get this started and gather information on what the district would like.

The school boards are elected bodies with taxing ability. Is it the county's responsibility to take on the school board issues?

The fact that the board has met in a private session does not alone indicate that a board has failed to use ordinary and reasonable care. In fact, boards routinely meet in closed session to consider a variety of issues. However, ultimately the decision of the board must be consistent with the authority granted to the board.

The Hillsborough County School Board leadership has embraced accountability and made significant steps to improve student achievement. It is an excellent example of how an urban school board culture of communication, respect, commitment, and responsibility can make such a positive change in their district, their communities, and their students' well-being, ... CUBE and its member districts commend Hillsborough for a job well done.

I really can't say right now, in all honesty. Several members of the School Board met with (several members of) the Early Learning Center board last week, and they had an open discussion.

Ultimately, if the board decides to centralize the campus, then we will decide what to do with the school.

Home rule gave city and county councils the authority to redistrict themselves, but it did not do that for school boards. The delegation, through the General Assembly, is the sole authority for changing school board district lines. A lot of delegations don't even let the school boards look at their plan until it's drawn up and done.

The school board has decided that it is not going to open up public school properties as a forum for political debates. This was done without regard to the viewpoint of any party seeking to engage in a political debate on school grounds.

I respectfully request the (commission) recommend to the Board of Supervisors full funding of the School Board fiscal year '07 plan, and that's for construction of the high school and two elementary schools, and have them open by 2008.

It smacks of unfairness. School board members don't come into the hearing with a clean and open mind. Their bias is to support the superintendent. School boards hire superintendents, and they tend to want to support the guy they brought in.

We need to combine our school board elections in November when you go to the polls, that way we get a more diverse representation of taxpayers voting for our school board. We need a school board in there who wants what the taxpayers want.
