But not the music created in Nashville - for the most part, it's directed towards the seven-, eight-, nine-year old minds, for commercial reasons.

 I've loved country music my entire life. This isn't some one-off thing, because I'm briefly charmed by it. I really love this music and I really relate to it and it really calls my name and I think it sounds like Bach to me when it's done right.

 We grew up in Nashville, but my brothers and I and my friends — we weren't steeped in country music by any means, ... We liked what everybody else liked at the time. It was like Journey and classic rock. We listened to rock when we were kids and we loved it. That's what we did. Getting older is when you got introduced to country music.

 Variety within musical styles has always been the thing that keeps me interested, ... But the music has to come from bluegrass first. We always said back in the '70s that if you want to play new grass you have to go through the school of bluegrass. You know, maybe Jack Black can make a movie now called School of Bluegrass . That would be cool.
